How to Sell Cloud Solutions: Understand the Customer's Business, Not Just the Technology

Tento článek je momentálně dostupný pouze v angličtině.

When we sell cloud solutions, we are not trying to impress anyone with the technology. We do the opposite: we look at the whole situation through the customer's eyes, and specifically through the eyes of the business owner or the IT manager, who often has a completely different perspective from the supplier.

For us, the cloud means flexibility, scalability or DevOps automation. For the customer it is only a means to an end. A means of cutting costs, of making processes more efficient, and ultimately of growing the business. And that is exactly where we direct our attention.

1. Picking the right customer is the foundation

We do not open with an offer. First we ask ourselves a question: does this company have a real reason to move to the cloud? Is it dealing with problems the cloud can actually solve?

What we look for:

  • Does it have a problem with outages or with backups?
  • Are its IT systems inefficient or outdated?
  • Is the company growing and does it need to scale without heavy investment in hardware?
  • Does it want to automate production, reduce error rates, prevent downtime?

If the answer is yes, the cloud makes sense. And it also makes sense for us to put time and energy into that company.

2. We sell business value, not just technology

When we talk to management, we do not talk about containers, clusters and Kubernetes. We talk about how:

  • automation in the cloud eliminates errors in production,
  • monitoring reduces outages and prevents expensive downtime,
  • cloud backup protects the company against outages and against ransomware,
  • on-demand capacity lowers fixed costs and raises efficiency.

The customer wants an answer to one question: "How will this investment bring me savings or profit?" That is exactly what we show them, in numbers, in ROI models or in concrete examples from real projects.

3. The cloud is not the goal, it is a tool

Even when we implement modern technology, we always make sure the cloud stays the means and not the end. That is why we often do not push a "cloud only" approach when it brings the customer nothing. Sometimes a hybrid model is enough, and sometimes a simple cloud backup solution is all that is needed.

In our work, a cloud solution always starts from a business need, not from the current trend.

Conclusion: Successful cloud selling is not about the cloud, it is about the customer

If we can understand what the customer wants to achieve in their business, we can present the cloud as a logical and efficient tool. And that is the point at which they buy it: not because it is fashionable, but because it makes sense for them.
